Cities where Technothlon 2012 was conducted.

The prelims is a written exam which would be held on 14th July, 2013. It is entirely a logical and reasoning based question paper and does not require any prior knowledge or use of any mathematical formula. To give you an idea about the question paper links to previous year question paper are given below.

Mains consists of events held at IIT Guwahati among the top 50 Teams from each squad based on the Prelims performance. The events that were organised last year are given below.

Junior Squad

Inspektra
Inspektra is an event for Juniors Squad where a crime scene will be there in front of you with different clues hidden. You have to identify the clues, solve the clues and catch the person who committed crime. In a nutshell, this is a platform for you to be the SHERLOK HOLMES and investigate a Crime Scene.

Hercules Arm
The doctor’s needle, the fluid of life One quenches thirst, other gives strife… How can these two together be? Hercules arm will make you see !! Most of us have had tragic experiences with two things, doctors’ syringes and water(oh come on we all cried while bathing while we were babies..!). No we aren’t talking fear here… We will combine these two really usual objects of our lives to make something magical enough to ‘lift’ your spirits. Come and get vaccinated by special “hydro” injections which will infect you with the ‘herculean’ virus !!!!

Puzzle the Puzzlers
How can we remove a coin from a bottle closed with a cork without actually opening it..?? ..puzzled.. Its time to fasten your seat belts. As you enter the amazing world of brainstorming and adeptness. Map your way through the temple of puzzles, and as you translate the mysterious scripts, wiping the dust of old books of wisdom, see the magnificent images of truth, and if you are lucky enough you might end up being a scholar here! More your quick-wittedness higher you are on the hog. So gather all the cards of your deck and be ready to be perplexed by one of the most exciting events in Technothlon.

Final Showdown
After 3 days of adventurous, exhilarating, nerve-racking and mind boggling events, it all boils down to the final showdown! Out of the tens of thousands of students who write the prelims, the top 5 teams battle it out for the supremacy and ultimate glory.

Hauts Squad

Air Frenzy
Cut loose and think beyond the obvious. Air Frenzy allows you to design a Helicopter on a computer. Designing not only invloves imagination and creativity but application of physics and mathematics. Design with the maximum speed, maximum fuel efficiency and minimum cost wins.

Qount It
This will be an event which will involve playing with math! You’ll have to think hard, and very cleverly, to excel in what we all enjoy anyway – playing games. So equip your armor, and prepare your war strategies, because this is going to be the most terrific battle of the minds.

Q-Botrix
Transformers, I Robots,Terminator-What stands common in all these flicks? Of Course the teenage fascination for ROBOT. Simply put, Q-botrix gives you the chance to build a robot from scratch. This will be the opportunity to discover the unadulterated magic of building a robot against time!

Final Showdown

Two students can register individually as a team, in case the school is not participating, the two students must be from the same school and squad. Registration fee is Rs.100 per team.

This is if the school want to register the students together. Registration fee for all schools (except KV's, JNV's and APS's) is Rs.100 per team.

For International students the registration fee is $5 (or whichever currency you plan to pay in) per Team and the mode of exam would be online.

Technothlon is conducted free for all Kendriya Vidyalaya students. All the KV's should send their students registration in the format given in the following excel sheet sample excel file to Email: technothlon.kv@gmail.com. Please note all fields in th excel sheet are mandatory. Also, school should send the contact details of their faculty coordinator.

Technothlon is an annual international school championship for classes 9th to 12th conducted and organized by the students of IIT Guwahati. It consists of prelims and mains. Prelims is a written exam based on which teams are selected for the mains held at IIT Guwahati in which various events are held and prizes are given to the top three teams.

Techniche is the annual techno-management festival of IIT Guwahati. It is one of the largest techno-management festivals in India. A large number of events are held during Techniche such as the Lecture Series in which lectures are delivered by various eminent personalities (Walter Bender, George Kourounis, Dr. Samuel Chand). Other events include Funniche, Industrial Conclave, Escalade, Rush Hour, Marathon. Various exhibitions and workshops are also held during the festival.

You must be studying in standard 9th-12th in the year 2012-13. Classes 9th and 10th comprise the junior squad while classes 11th and 12th comprise the hauts squad. No pre-requisite knowledge on definite topics in science or elsewhere is required.

Technothlon is an exam filled with intriguing questions that test your logical thinking and presence of mind. If you think your analytical abilities are sharp and your logic is clear, then just sit for the exam and you are sure to crack it!

The prelims will be conducted in schools which will be fixed as centres in 100+ cities all over India. To see the list of cities where the exam will be held, go to the centers page . You will be informed of the centres allocated for your city well in advance of the exam. For KVs, JNVs, APSs, the exam will be conducted in your schools itself.

No questions in the paper will require prior knowledge of facts, formulae, etc. All questions will be objective and subjective both and will demand basic common sense, logic and presence of mind.

No, individual participation is not allowed.

The results of the Technothlon prelims will be declared in the first week of August to give the selected students ample time for booking their tickets.

Technopedia is an online module of Technothlon, where quizzes are posted monthly, various interesting topics and queries as well are discussed with the students at IIT by means of the forum and data on various technological advancements occurring across the globe is posted. It is an online version of Technothlon through which you will get the feel of Technothlon. Only students registered for the prelims may log onto technopedia through id and password which will be provided to them through e-mail.

Guwahati can be easily reached through airways and railways. Regular buses play from IITG to the city. We will have our volunteers waiting for you at the railway station or airport.

All the participants will be accomodated in our hostels. We have separate girls’ and boys’ hostels. The food will be available in the hostel mess at the reasonable rates. The beddings will be provided by us and in case of any problems, we have a very efficient hospitality team waiting for you.

There are no accomodation or mess charges for the participating students but their guardians have to pay a nominal amount upon reaching the campus, at the time of registration. The amount will be around Rs. 200(subject to change) per day, per person. This includes the accommodation and mess charges.

We recommend bringing only a single mentor per team. This will help us in accommodating all the participants as well as the mentors.

The students get the opportunity to attend lectures given by renowned personalities, workshops, events, etc. They get to interact with the students presently studying there and enjoy the scenic, green campus of IITG. There is a robotics event in which the students will build their own autonomous robot. Technothlon is the only platform which gives school students such an opportunity at such an early stage.

We recommend you to bring your pre-paid or post-paid SIMs along with you. We have very few STD centres in the campus. However, we will always be there for you if you need any help.
